Erik Sundin is a Professor at Linköping University's Department of Management and Engineering (Environmental Technology and Management division). His research focuses on sustainable manufacturing, circular economy, and remanufacturing, with a particular emphasis on product-service systems (PSS) and design for remanufacturing. He has led over 30 research projects, including EU initiatives like SCANDERE and CIRC€UIT, and national projects REMARKABLE and SQID. He serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Remanufacturing and chairs VINNOVA's Produktion2030 program.
Holding a PhD from 2004 ("Product and Process Design for Successful Remanufacturing"), Sundin is recognized as a top global researcher in PSS/PaaS. His work has been featured 7 times on IVA's 100 List of high-impact projects. Awards include the Emerald Literati Network Award (2010) and Best Reman Ambassador at REMATEC. He actively promotes remanufacturing through standards development (ISO 14006, ISO 59004) and international collaborations with institutions in Japan, Germany, and France.
Key research themes include remanufacturing maturity models, automation in repair processes, and lifecycle information integration. Sundin's projects emphasize real-world impact, such as developing water-based industrial cleaning systems and tools for assessing product remanufacturing viability.
