Martin Fredriksson is an Associate Professor at Linköping University's Department of Culture and Society (IKOS), affiliated with the Division of Culture, Society, Design and Media (KSFM). His research focuses on intellectual property rights, cultural heritage, and postcolonial studies. He holds roles as Program Director for the BA in Global Studies and supervises PhD students Mattis Karlsson and Johan Larsson Lindahl.
Education: PhD from Linköping University (2010), followed by postdoctoral research. His projects include:
- PASSIM: European Research Council-funded study on digital traditional knowledge databases and patent misappropriation.
- Revitalisation and Sustainability: Examines Plant Variety Protection laws affecting farmers' seed rights, funded by FORMAS.
- Protection of Classics: Analyzes Sweden's §51 copyright law, funded by Riksbankens Jubileumsfond.
Research Interests: Intellectual property law, cultural heritage protection, postcolonial legal frameworks, and globalization's impact on traditional knowledge. His work bridges legal history and contemporary activism, addressing issues like seed rights and indigenous cultural claims.
