Erik Stei is an Assistant Professor in Theoretical Philosophy at Utrecht University's Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies within the Faculty of Humanities. His academic appointments include positions at the University of Bonn, University of Mainz, CUNY Graduate Center, UNC Chapel Hill, University of Oxford, and Universidad Complutense de Madrid. He served as coordinator of the DFG-research network 'The Semantics and Metasemantics of Context-Sensitive Language' and received DFG funding for research leave.
Dr. Stei's primary research interests focus on philosophical logic, particularly logical pluralism, the normativity and epistemology of logic, different aspects of context-sensitivity, and social epistemic structures. His work bridges traditional philosophical inquiry with contemporary issues in human-centered artificial intelligence and migration studies. He has made significant contributions to understanding how logical systems relate to disagreement and normative constraints.
His major publication Logical Pluralism and Logical Consequence (Cambridge University Press, 2023) represents a landmark contribution to the field.
