Prof. Dr. Erik Redling is a Professor of American Literature at the Muhlenberg Center for American Studies, Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, since 2013. As Managing Director of the center, he fosters transatlantic academic exchange and research on American literature and culture.
- Research Interests: Intermediality, Jazz Poetry, Cognitive Poetics, Translation Theories, Dialect Literature, Cultural Ecology, African-American Literature, Modern/Postmodern Studies.
- Key Publications: Monographs Translating Jazz into Poetry (2017) and Speaking of Dialect (2006); co-edited works include Protestantism on Screen (2020) and Traveling Traditions (2016).
- Recent Projects: Current book project on Zora Neale Hurston, dialect writing, and translation. Organized conferences like Sound & Vision: Intermediality and American Music (2017) and Protestantism on Screen (2015).
- Awards: Habilitation Award (2010, German Association of American Studies), Dissertation Award (2005, University of Augsburg).
- Grants: Funded by Volkswagen Foundation, Fritz Thyssen Stiftung, DFG, and U.S. Embassy for conferences.
