Patrick S Bernard is an Associate Professor of English and Program Chair of Africana Studies. His academic work bridges African American literature, Afro-Diaspora studies, and critical theory.

• B.A. (With Honours) in English from Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone

Research and Teaching Interests: Bernard specializes in African American Literature, with a focus on Call and Response, memory, and the Harlem Renaissance. His scholarship explores intersections of race, gender, and identity through textual analysis, orality, and cultural frameworks.

Publications highlight his expertise in diasporic narratives, gendered perspectives in African and African American literature, and the role of performance in shaping cultural memory. Notably, his work examines Langston Hughes, Zora Neale Hurston, and feminist texts in postcolonial contexts.
