Erik Kjosness

Erik Kjosness is a Lecturer in the Math & Computer Science Department at Western Colorado University. He holds an MS in Mathematics from Montana State University (2014) and a BA in Math and Computer Information Science from Western Colorado University (2004). As a legacy faculty member, he has deep ties to the Gunnison Valley community through his family, including his grandfather who served as Dean of Students for three decades.

His teaching portfolio spans foundational courses like MATH 098: Beginning Algebra to advanced subjects such as MATH 370: History of Mathematics and MATH 252: Calculus III. He emphasizes transforming student perceptions of mathematics, focusing on its universal applicability in natural phenomena, arts, and science.

Key research interests include Actuarial Science, Data Analytics, and Mathematics Education. He is also involved in unique courses like HWTR 100: Rubik’s Cube and HWTR 100: Billiards, which explore mathematical concepts through recreational activities.
