Erik Borgir is a Professor at the Lucerne School of Music (HSLU), where he has taught Cello and Chamber Music since 2011. He holds the role of Study Coordinator in Interpretation in Contemporary Music and Music and Art Performance. His academic affiliation lies within the Institute of New Music, Composition and Theory.
Education: Studied at Oberlin Conservatory and New England Conservatory in Boston, under notable teachers including Steven Doane, Harvey Shapiro, Siegfried Palm, Menahem Pressler, and the Alban Berg Quartett.
Research and Performance: A renowned cellist specializing in contemporary music, Borgir co-founded the acclaimed ensemble ascolta, recognized globally for its dedication to new music. He has performed with the Emanon Trio and served as solo cellist for the Bayerisches Kammerorchester and Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra (RSO). Regular guest artist at major festivals like Donaueschingen, Wien Modern, Lucerne Festival, Berliner Festspiele, Salzburg Festival, and Darmstadt Summer Courses.
Artistic Contributions: Numerous composers have written solo works for him, documented on CDs by labels Neos and Cybele. His expertise bridges classical and contemporary performance practices, emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration between music and art.
