Erick Lachapelle is a full Professor at the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Université de Montréal. He is a researcher at CÉRIUM (Centre d'études et de recherches internationales) and affiliated with multiple institutions including CPDS, CIRST, and CÉRIUM. His research focuses on the political economy of environmental and energy issues, with regional emphasis on North America and international comparative perspectives.
His work examines how political actors develop preferences and behaviors regarding complex environmental policies, integrating institutional contexts, partisan ideologies, and risk perceptions. He has supervised numerous graduate theses on climate change governance, policy communication, and public engagement, with students graduating from 2014 to 2025.
He leads and collaborates on research projects spanning climate policy, democratic governance, and risk management, funded by Canadian and Quebec research councils (CRSH, FRQSC) and institutions like Ouranos and MITACS. His teaching includes POL6570 (Climate Policy) and graduate programs in environmental policy, political science, and public affairs.
