Catherine Xhardez

Catherine Xhardez is an Associate Professor at the Department of Political Science, Université de Montréal, affiliated with the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and CÉRIUM—Centre d'études et de recherches internationales. She holds a PhD in Political Science from Université Saint-Louis–Bruxelles and Sciences Po Paris. Her work focuses on immigration, federalism, and public policy, with emphasis on sub-state entities like Canadian provinces and Belgian regions.

• Research: Explores federal immigration policies, nationalism, and subnational integration strategies, with projects funded by SSHRC, FRQSC, and the Quebec Government.

Her research highlights how provinces and regions shape immigration policies, challenging assumptions about nationalism's role in integration. Key projects include:

Catherine has held postdoctoral positions at VUB’s Brussels School of Governance and Concordia University, with research stays at Yale, McGill, and Oxford. She teaches courses on immigration policy and policy evaluation.
