Erica Korb is an Assistant Professor of Genetics at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. Her research focuses on the intersection of neuroscience and epigenetics, particularly the role of chromatin in neurodevelopmental disorders and neuronal plasticity. She is affiliated with the Autism Spectrum Program of Excellence and the Center of Excellence in Environmental Toxicology at Penn.
- BS in Molecular Biology, Yale University (2005)
- PhD in Neuroscience, University of California, San Francisco (2012)
Dr. Korb’s research explores how environmental cues influence gene expression through chromatin modifications, with key findings in autism, memory formation, and SARS-CoV-2 interactions. Her work on histone variants and chromatin regulators like Brd4 and DOT1L has clarified mechanisms in synaptic plasticity and neurodevelopmental disease.
Notable recent publications include studies on:
- DOT1L's role in neurodevelopmental disorders (2025)
- Histone mimicry by SARS-CoV-2 ORF8 protein (2022)
- Transcriptional signatures in ASD models (2022)
- H2BE histone variant's impact on memory (2024)
Dr. Korb's lab employs techniques such as genome-wide sequencing, bioinformatics, and behavioral testing to investigate chromatin dynamics in the brain. She has mentored several graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in her lab at Penn.
