معرفی
Ted Abel is a Professor and Chair and Department Executive Officer of Neuroscience and Pharmacology at the University of Iowa. He also serves as the Roy J. Carver Director of the Iowa Neuroscience Institute and holds secondary appointments in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Psychiatry, Psychological and Brain Sciences, and Molecular Physiology and Biophysics. His research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of memory storage and neurodevelopmental/psychiatric disorders using mouse models.
- Education: BA in Chemistry (Swarthmore College), MPhil in Biochemistry (University of Cambridge), PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (Harvard University)
Research Interests:
The Abel Lab investigates how molecular signaling pathways, transcriptional regulation, and epigenetic mechanisms shape neural circuits to mediate behavior. Key areas include synaptic plasticity, sleep deprivation effects on memory, and neurodevelopmental disorders like autism.
Research Trends:
Recent publications emphasize chromatin remodeling in autism, synaptic tagging mechanisms, sleep-memory interactions, and genetic models of neurodevelopmental disorders. They span molecular neuroscience, behavioral genetics, and translational research.
- Scientific Leadership: Roy J. Carver Chair, HHMI Graduate Program Fellow
Labs & Teams:
He leads the Abel Lab at the Iowa Neuroscience Institute, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams on neurodegeneration, synaptic function, and behavioral neuroscience research.
