Eric Patashnik is the Julis-Rabinowitz Professor of Public Policy and Political Science at Brown University's Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs, with a joint appointment in the Political Science Department. He holds affiliations as a Nonresident Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution and a Fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration. Previously, he held positions at the University of Virginia, UCLA, and Yale University. His research focuses on the politics of U.S. national policymaking, including policy feedback, health policy, budget politics, and Congress. He has authored influential books such as Countermobilization (2023), Unhealthy Politics (2017), and Reforms at Risk (2008), which have garnered prestigious awards like the Louis Brownlow Book Award. Patashnik has held administrative roles including Chair of Brown’s Political Science Department and Director of the MPA program. His recent work explores government's role in problem-solving, particularly in health equity and policy entrenchment. He has secured grants totaling over $887,000 and directed conferences on topics such as Medicaid's 60th anniversary and opioid policy. Patashnik earned his Ph.D. from UC Berkeley and has taught courses on public policy, health care politics, and system dynamics. His accolades include the Jefferson Scholars Foundation Award for Excellence in Teaching.
