Wendy J. Schiller is the Alison S. Ressler Professor of Political Science at Brown University and Director of the Taubman Center for American Politics and Policy. She holds affiliations with the Watson Institute of International and Public Affairs. Her research focuses on legislative politics, U.S. Senate dynamics, gender equality in public policy, and federalism. Schiller earned a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Rochester and previously served as Chair of Brown’s Political Science Department.
Education: A.B. from the University of Chicago, M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Rochester.
Research interests include the historical and modern U.S. Senate, policy diffusion related to domestic violence laws, and the impact of federalism on gender equality. Key projects include co-authored works on Senate elections pre-17th Amendment and a forthcoming book analyzing state-level domestic violence policies.
Recent articles address topics like gun violence against women and partisan polarization. Awards include the Royce Family Professorship and Fulbright Senior Lecturer status. She has directed major grants, including a National Science Foundation project on historical Senate elections.
Teaching spans American political institutions, the presidency, and graduate seminars. She advises the Taubman Center and serves on editorial boards for journals like *Legislative Studies Quarterly* and *Journal of Politics*.
