Professor Eric Morand is a physician-scientist and Dean of the Sub-Faculty of Clinical and Molecular Medicine at Monash University, leading research and teaching activities in partnership with Monash Health. He specializes in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), founding the Monash Lupus Clinic and chairing the Asia-Pacific Lupus Collaboration. As Head of the Monash Health Rheumatology Unit, he focuses on clinical outcomes, biomarkers, and glucocorticoid biology in autoimmune diseases. His research includes pioneering treat-to-target outcomes and developing biomarker archives through the Australian Lupus Registry & Biobank.
Research interests span SLE pathogenesis, glucocorticoid-regulated proteins (e.g., GILZ, MIF), and translational studies. He leads projects on CAR-T cell therapies and next-generation glucocorticoid alternatives. Editor-in roles include The Lancet Rheumatology and Lupus Science & Medicine.
Notable achievements include the Evelyn V Hess MD Award (2022) and Distinguished Innovator Award (2015). Over 370 publications and 81 research projects highlight his contributions to SLE and rheumatology. Current projects address CAR-T therapies, pediatric immune responses, and glucocorticoid replacement strategies.
