Wendy Dankers is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow and Adjunct Research Associate in the Department of Medicine at Monash University. She is part of the Rheumatology Research Group led by Professor Eric Morand and Dr. Sarah Jones, focusing on the role of GILZ in autoimmune diseases like lupus. Her research explores molecular mechanisms suppressing autoimmunity, particularly involving T helper cells and innate immune pathways. She holds a PhD from Erasmus University Rotterdam (2018) and an MSc/BSc from the University of Twente (Netherlands).
Education:
- PhD in Autoimmunity (2011–2018), Erasmus University Rotterdam
- MSc in Biomedical Engineering (2008–2011), University of Twente
- BSc in Biomedical Engineering (2008), University of Twente
Research Interests: Autoimmune disease pathogenesis, GILZ molecular functions, vitamin D modulation, T cell regulation, and translational strategies for lupus treatment. Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals by advancing therapies for debilitating autoimmune conditions.
Awards:
- EMBO Short-term Fellowship (2013)
- Molecular Medicine Day 2012 Best Oral Presentation
Advising & Grants: Actively involved in grant reviews (e.g., Project Grants 2018) and collaborates internationally on autoimmune disease research. Her lab focuses on experimental lupus models and clinical sample analysis via a large biobank.
Labs/Teams: Part of the Morand-Jones research group at Monash University, leveraging interdisciplinary approaches to target GILZ for therapeutic innovation.
