Eric M. Taleff is a Professor in the Walker Department of Mechanical Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin, affiliated with the Cockrell School of Engineering. He holds the Temple Foundation Endowed Faculty Fellowship No. 6 and is part of the Texas Materials Institute. His research focuses on structural materials, particularly the mechanical behavior and thermomechanical processing of advanced materials. Key areas include Al-Mg alloys, superplasticity, and hypereutectoid steels for high-strength applications.
Dr. Taleff’s research interests involve processing-microstructure-property relationships, with notable work on abnormal grain growth in metals like molybdenum and tantalum. He has advised multiple research groups, including the Taleff Research Group. He has received numerous awards, including the NSF CAREER Award and teaching accolades from the Cockrell School. He serves as Faculty Advisor for Pi Tau Sigma, the National Honorary Mechanical Engineering Society.
His affiliations include the Minerals, Metals & Materials Society, ASM International, and the American Society of Professional Engineers. His work spans experimental and theoretical studies in metallurgy, with contributions to high-temperature material behavior and structural integrity under extreme conditions.
