Eric Hollander, M.D., is a Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Director of the Autism and Obsessive Compulsive Spectrum Program at Montefiore Medical Center. He also leads the Anxiety and Depression Program and has held prior roles such as Chair of Psychiatry at Mount Sinai School of Medicine and Director of the Seaver and NY Autism Center of Excellence.
Education: B.A. from Brandeis University (1978), M.D. from SUNY Downstate (1982), followed by residencies and fellowships at Mount Sinai and Columbia University. He holds certifications from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
Research focuses on neuropharmacology, treatment of OCD, autism spectrum disorders (ASD), Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS), impulse control disorders (e.g., pathological gambling), and body dysmorphic disorder (BDD). He has pioneered studies on CBDV in ASD and oxytocin in PWS, leveraging federal grants from NIH, DOD, and FDA.
Over 500 publications and 20 edited books include Textbook of Autism Spectrum Disorders and Clinical Manual of Impulse Control Disorders. Awards include NARSAD’s Distinguished Investigator Award and APA’s national research awards. He is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Psychiatric Research.
Notable grants include NIH’s Greater New York Autism Center of Excellence and DOD’s CBDV in ASD study. He has led the autism Clinical Trials Network and NIH STAART Steering Committee. Media appearances include Today Show, Dateline NBC, People Magazine, and New York Times.
