Eric Gaussier is a Professor of Computer Science at Grenoble Alpes University and a member of the Institut Universitaire de France (IUF). He currently serves as Scientific Director of the Grenoble Interdisciplinary Institute in Artificial Intelligence (MIAI) and previously directed the Laboratory of Informatics of Grenoble (LIG) from 2016-2020.
His research spans machine learning, information retrieval, and computational linguistics with focus on large-scale multilingual collections, theoretical modeling, and practical implementations. Additional expertise includes social network analysis for textual information sharing, machine learning applications in job scheduling, and representation learning for sequences including text and time series.
His major scientific awards include:

As an academic advisor, he supervised PhD student Théo Trouillon whose work on complex-valued embedding models for knowledge graph completion won the Université Grenoble Alpes PhD Prize in 2018. His leadership extends to co-founding AI startup Skopaï (2017) and serving on the European Research Council panel (2007-2013).
He previously headed the AMA research team (2011-2015) focused on data analysis and machine learning, and remains instrumental in shaping AI research through MIAI's interdisciplinary initiatives.
