Cordelia Schmid

Cordelia Schmid is a Research Director at INRIA Grenoble Rhône-Alpes, where she leads the LEAR (Learning and Recognition in Vision) team. She holds an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Karlsruhe and a Doctorate in Computer Science from INPG, where her thesis won the best thesis award in 1996. After post-doctoral research at Oxford University's Robotics Research Group (1996-1997), she joined INRIA permanently in 1997.

Her research focuses on computer vision, including visual representations, learning models for image recognition, and bridging the human-machine performance gap in visual understanding. She has received multiple prestigious awards, including two Longuet-Higgins Prizes (2006, 2014) and an ERC Advanced Grant (2013). As an IEEE Fellow, she has authored over 100 technical publications.
