Eric D. Peterson

Eric D. Peterson, M.D., M.P.H., is Professor of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center, where he holds the Adelyn and Edmund M. Hoffman Distinguished Chair in Medical Science. He serves as Vice Provost, Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Research, and Vice President for Health System Research. Previously, he was Executive Director of the Duke Clinical Research Institute.

His research focuses on cardiovascular outcomes, clinical trial design, health technology innovation, and quality improvement in cardiac care. He leads national registries and clinical implementation projects, with work emphasizing real-world evidence generation and equitable care delivery.

Publications demonstrate consistent focus on cardiovascular outcomes, quality metrics, and health disparities. Recent work explores acute coronary syndrome management, surgical risk models, and socioeconomic determinants of cardiac outcomes across 1,400+ peer-reviewed articles.
