Enola Proctor

Enola Proctor is a Research Professor at the Brown School of Washington University in St. Louis, renowned for her pioneering work in dissemination and implementation science. She has directed the Implementation Research Institute, a National Institute for Mental Health (NIMH)-funded training program, and co-led the establishment of key university-wide centers such as the Center for Dissemination and Implementation (Washington University Institute for Public Health) and the Dissemination and Implementation Research Core (CTSA program). Her research spans social work, public health, and healthcare settings, focusing on advancing the conceptual and methodological foundations of implementation science.

Proctor’s scholarly work has been funded continuously for 26 years by agencies including the National Institute on Aging (NIA), Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), and NIMH. She co-edited the third edition of 'Dissemination and Implementation Research in Health' (Oxford University Press, 2023) with Ross Brownson and Graham Colditz, emphasizing health equity, de-implementation, and capacity building.

Her research influence is reflected in her repeated recognition as a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher (2020–2024), placing her among the top 1% of cited scholars globally. She has also received prestigious awards such as the Arthur Compton Holly Distinguished Faculty Award, Distinguished Research Award from the Society for Social Work and Research, and the Stephen M. Banks Award for mentoring in mental health services.

Proctor actively contributes to global health initiatives, including a World Health Organization (WHO) project on COVID vaccine implementation in low- to middle-income countries. Her work underscores the importance of translating research into practice through collaborative partnerships, cross-country studies, and systematic approaches to policy and clinical care.
