Byron Powell

Byron Powell is an Associate Professor and Associate Dean for Research at the Brown School, Washington University in St. Louis. He co-directs the Brown School’s Center for Mental Health Services Research, the Institute for Public Health’s Center for Dissemination & Implementation, and the Dissemination and Implementation Research Core at the Institute of Clinical and Translational Science. He holds secondary appointments at Washington University School of Medicine and adjunct roles at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, UNSW Sydney, and University College Cork.

Powell’s research focuses on advancing methods in implementation science to improve health and social services quality, particularly in behavioral health. His work is primarily funded by the U.S. National Institutes of Health, resulting in ~160 journal articles, 11 chapters, and two books. He has been recognized as a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher and a Stanford University-Elsevier World’s Top 2% Scientist.

As Co-Editor-in-Chief of Implementation Research and Practice and editorial board member of Implementation Science, Powell contributes to academic leadership. He previously served as President of the Society for Implementation Research Collaboration (2020-2023). Powell teaches a course on implementation strategies at WashU and is Associate Director of the Implementation Research Institute, providing mentorship to global scholars.
