Dr. Emrys Jones is a Senior Lecturer in Eighteenth-Century Literature and Culture at King's College London's Department of English. He holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge and previously taught at the University of Greenwich before joining King’s in 2016. His research focuses on sociability, celebrity, political dialogue, and privacy/publicity in eighteenth-century literature. Notable works include Friendship and Allegiance in Eighteenth-Century Literature (2013) and co-editing Intimacy and Celebrity in Eighteenth-Century Literary Culture (2018). He co-hosts the Pop Enlightenments podcast and contributes to public engagement through initiatives like the BSECS Criticks website.
Teaching encompasses modules on eighteenth-century literature, Jane Austen, and Alexander Pope's literary circles. Current projects include an edited collection on periodicals and a monograph on levee culture. His work bridges historical scholarship with modern cultural analysis, exploring themes like celebrity, politics, and the intersection of private and public life.
