Barbara K. Seeber is a Professor in the Department of English Language & Literature at Brock University’s Faculty of Humanities. Her work bridges Jane Austen studies, animal studies, and 18th-century literature. She co-authored The Slow Professor: Challenging the Culture of Speed in the Academy (2016), which critiques academic productivity pressures and was translated into multiple languages and adapted for audio. Dr. Seeber holds a PhD from Queen’s University and has been recognized with the 2014 Faculty of Humanities Award for Excellence in Teaching. Her research explores themes such as affective theory in Austen’s novels, animal representation in literature, and Enlightenment-era political thought. She has published widely in journals and edited volumes, including analyses of Austen’s poetry and rural sport in her works and those of contemporaries.
