Emmanuel C. Bourbouhakis is an Associate Professor of Classics and a member of the Stanley J. Seeger '52 Center for Hellenic Studies at Uppsala University. His research focuses on Byzantine Studies, Classical Reception, and Medieval literature, with specialties in Antiquity, Late Antiquity, and Medieval Studies. He has published seminal works such as Not Composed in a Chance Manner (2017), analyzing the Epitaphios of Manuel I Komnenos by Eustathios of Thessalonike.
Teaching roles include courses like Hellenism: A Novel Story (Spring 2025), Problems in Medieval Literature: Greek Paleography and Textual Criticism (Spring 2024), and Rhetoric and Politics (Spring 2023). He currently serves on the Executive Committee and Program Faculty of his academic unit.
