Emma Smith is a Researcher at the University of Sheffield School of Psychology, affiliated with the Interdisciplinary Centre of the Social Sciences (ICOSS). Her academic journey began with a 1st Class Honours BSc in Psychology at the University of Sheffield.

Her research focuses on socioeconomic factors influencing cognitive development in early childhood, particularly disparities in executive functions. She previously investigated video-based interventions to support infant language development through parental engagement and advocates for inclusive research that addresses marginalized groups.
Emma collaborates with Dr. Emma Blakey on longitudinal studies at ICOSS, following earlier work with Dr. Danielle Matthews and Dr. Daniel Carroll. Her research bridges developmental psychology and social sciences, aiming to inform equitable support systems for children’s cognitive growth.
