Dr. Daniel Poole is a Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Sheffield’s School of Psychology, affiliated with the Interdisciplinary Centre of the Social Sciences (ICOSS). He joined the department in 2021 with an Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) New Investigator Award and transitioned to his current role in 2023. Previously, he completed a Medical Research Council-funded PhD at the University of Manchester (2015) on multisensory processing in autistic adults, followed by teaching roles and a Research Associate position on ESRC-funded autism timing research.
His research focuses on autism and neurodiversity, particularly in adulthood. Key areas include selective attention mechanisms, temporal cognition, post-diagnostic support needs, and improving autism research methodologies. He advocates for open science practices and co-production with autistic communities in research design.
Teaching responsibilities include courses on Cognitive Psychology, Neurodiversity, and Psychology research methodologies. Professional roles include co-chairing the Department’s Parental Champion initiative.
He leads research in the Sheffield Autism Research Lab (ShARL), exploring topics like perceptual capacity differences and post-diagnostic support systems. His work bridges clinical psychology, cognitive science, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
