Dr. Emma Blakey is a Senior Lecturer in Developmental Psychology at the University of Sheffield’s School of Psychology and Co-Director of One University. She holds a PhD, MSc, and BA from the University of Sheffield, focusing on Developmental Psychology, Psychological Research, and Philosophy/Psychology. Her research examines executive function development in young children, the impact of social inequalities on child outcomes, and interventions to reduce socioeconomic disparities in early education. She leads the ESRC-funded longitudinal study *The Sheffield Early Years Study* and co-leads interventions like *The ONE Intervention* (EEF-funded) targeting early math skills.
Her work integrates interdisciplinary approaches, collaborating with institutions like Oxford and Ulster University. Current projects include analyzing home environments’ role in early math skills (Nuffield Foundation-funded) and studying pandemic impacts on new parents (with Fiona Scott and Michelle McGillion). She is Parent Champion for the School of Psychology, advocating for caregiver support and widening participation in STEM.
Blakey’s research portfolio spans over 20 peer-reviewed articles, including studies on bilingualism’s cognitive effects, temporal perception in children, and ASMR physiology. She supervises PhD students in topics ranging from music’s cognitive benefits to biculturalism’s influence on cognition.
