Dr. Emma Reisz is a Lecturer in the School of History, Anthropology, Philosophy and Politics at Queen's University Belfast. Her research focuses on Asian, imperial, and transnational history, with a particular emphasis on Sino-Western relations, British imperialism in Asia, and the role of photography in empire. She leads major projects such as the AHRC-funded Robert Hart Project and Reframing the Visualities of Imperial War. Her work bridges academic research with public engagement, including collaborations with institutions like the Freer|Sackler Museum and the National Army Museum.
Dr. Reisz's research projects explore themes including Ireland and empire, trade networks, and historical social networks. She has supervised PhD students on topics ranging from the East India Company's convict transportation to the Chinese Imperial Maritime Customs. Her awards include the AHRC-Smithsonian Fellowship in Digital Scholarship (2018) and the China Post Award for Chinese postal research. She actively contributes to public history initiatives, including TV/radio documentaries and digital exhibitions.
