Emma R Teitelman is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Global Labor and Work at Cornell University's ILR School. Her research focuses on labor history, inequality, and state formation, particularly during Reconstruction and the late 19th century. Prior to joining Cornell, she held academic roles at McGill University, Penn State (as Assistant Research Professor and Associate Director of the Richards Civil War Era Center), and the University of Cambridge (as Mellon Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in American History).

- Social reconstruction in the post-Civil War U.S.
- Regional comparisons between the American South and West
- Historical intersections of labor, race, and political economy
Her forthcoming book, Lumber and Lodes: The Social Reconstruction of the South and the West After the U.S. Civil War (Harvard UP), examines capitalist expansion and labor movements in post-emancipation America. Current research explores labor migration and resource extraction in postbellum regions.
