Kevin Adams is an Associate Professor in the Department of History at Kent State University, affiliated with the College of Arts & Sciences. His research focuses on U.S. history from 1607 to the present, with specialties in War & Society, the Gilded Age, and the American West. He earned both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of California, Berkeley.
His first monograph, Class and Race in the Frontier Army: Military Life in the West, 1870-1890, examines Victorian-era class divides and racism within the U.S. Army. Ongoing research explores federal power implementation via the Army during Reconstruction to the 1890s labor wars. Teaching interests include post-Civil War surveys, American Immigration History, and the Historian’s Craft.
Affiliated with the American Historical Association, Organization of American Historians, and Western History Association, Adams is currently mentoring graduate students in Civil War & Reconstruction, Gilded Age studies, and Western History.
