Dr. Emma Knowles is an Associate Lecturer in the Discipline of English at the University of Sydney, part of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. She holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge (2019), where she was a Gates Cambridge Scholar. Her research focuses on Old and Middle English literature, medievalism (particularly Arthurian themes), and gender studies. She is currently converting her doctoral work into a monograph and co-authoring a chapter on gender and biblical cultural history. She serves on the Early Career Researcher committee for the journal Parergon.

Research Interests: Emma’s work explores representations of nature in early medieval texts, gender dynamics in Arthurian literature, and the intersection of religion and ecology in Anglo-Saxon poetry. Her recent publications analyze the Red Sea narrative in Old English Exodus and gendered subtexts in Malory’s Morte D’Arthur.
Publications: Recent works include articles in English Studies and chapters in Reading the Natural World in the Middle Ages and Worldmaking: Literature, Language, Culture.
