Dr. Emma Hamilton is a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Western Australia (UWA) Medical School within the Department of Internal Medicine. She holds dual roles as an Endocrinologist at Fiona Stanley and Fremantle Hospitals and serves as the Endocrinology Lead for the Multidisciplinary Diabetes Foot Ulcer Unit at Fiona Stanley Hospital, an NADC Centre of Excellence. Her research focuses on diabetes-related foot disease, osteoporosis, and testosterone-related metabolic issues, with a particular emphasis on improving outcomes for patients through clinical innovation and guideline development.
She earned her MBBS, FRACP (Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians), and PhD. Her expertise aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those addressing health equity and sustainable healthcare systems. Key awards include the Raine Clinician Research Fellowship.
Her research interests span diabetes complications, wound healing, cardiovascular risk in diabetic foot ulcer patients, and the development of novel offloading devices. Recent work includes investigating lipid management in foot ulcer patients, limitations of AI in diabetic retinopathy screening, and classification frameworks for foot ulcers.
Dr. Hamilton actively supervises Higher Degree by Research students and contributes to national healthcare policy through initiatives like the Australian Diabetes-related Foot Disease Guidelines. She leads collaborative projects on wound classification, core outcome sets for interventions, and the cardio-renal-metabolic-foot connection in diabetes.
