Bu Yeap

Bu Yeap is a Professor in the UWA Medical School's Department of Internal Medicine at The University of Western Australia. He also serves as a consultant endocrinologist at Fiona Stanley Hospital, Perth. His academic journey includes a PhD (awarded with Distinction in 2001) and promotions to Associate Professor (2007) and Professor (2016). His research focuses on hormone-related health outcomes, male ageing, cardiovascular risk in diabetes, and obesity-endocrine interactions.

Research interests span epidemiological studies on testosterone in male ageing, cardiovascular-diabetes links, and obesity. He contributed to the Endocrine Society of Australia’s Position Statement on male hypogonadism (2016) and led the Testosterone for the Prevention of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T4DM) trial. His work aligns with UN SDGs addressing health equity and non-communicable diseases.

Awards include South Metro Health Service Researcher of the Year (2021) and Endocrine Society of Australia presidency (2020–2022). Key grants involve projects on diabetes prevention in Indigenous populations and dual incretin agonist therapies.

He mentors physician trainees and teaches medical students, balancing clinical care with research leadership in endocrinology and metabolic disorders.
