Dr Emma Gritt is a Lecturer in Information Management at Leeds University Business School, University of Leeds, where she also serves as Programme Director for the BA Business Management programme. Her academic work bridges Information Systems and Management, with a strong focus on digital transformation, technology adoption, and the evolving nature of work in digital environments.
She earned her PhD from the University of Leeds in 2018, investigating information behaviour and police use of social media. Her educational background includes an MA in Criminology from the University of Hull and a BA in Psychology and Applied Criminology from Leeds Metropolitan University.
Emma's research explores how digital technologies reshape organisational practices, particularly in the public sector. She employs qualitative and socio-technical approaches to examine digital transformation, social media for information sharing, ethical challenges of digital tools, and hybrid work models. Her work is interdisciplinary, drawing from management, criminology, and information systems.
Her research has been supported by major funding bodies including Research England, ESRC/UKRI, and the British Academy. She has collaborated with the Home Office and contributed to impactful research projects such as the REF 2021 Impact Case through the AIMTech Research Centre. Notably, she co-led a study on how police work practices evolved during the COVID-19 pandemic and is currently investigating early career academics' experiences in UK business schools.
