Dr Emma Clarke is a Professor and the Primary PGCE Programme Lead at the Department of Education, University of York. With 17 years of primary school teaching experience, she transitioned to Initial Teacher Education (ITE) and completed her PhD in 2017 on Teaching Assistants' behavior management. Her research spans challenging behavior, marginalized groups, and teacher well-being.

Dr Clarke specializes in qualitative methodologies and creative methods like photo and graphic-elicitation. Her work includes funded projects on trainee teacher well-being, girls at risk of exclusion, and pandemic impacts on NQTs.
Recent publications focus on girls' exclusion experiences, systemic vulnerability in transitions from alternative provision, and teacher well-being. Collaborative work includes ERASMUS+ projects with institutions in Finland, Denmark, and Germany.
