Emma Chapman is a Senior Research Fellow at the Academic Unit of Palliative Care within the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Leeds, specializing in symptom management interventions for advanced cancer patients through collaborations with Yorkshire hospices.
Her educational background includes:
- BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science from the University of Sheffield
- PhD in the School of Medicine at the University of Leeds, thesis: "The role of deletion of CDKN2A in transitional cell carcinoma" investigating bladder cancer development
Chapman's research evolved from molecular oncology (focusing on CDKN2A deletions and telomerase-associated gene expression in bladder cancer) to palliative care after joining the Academic Unit of Palliative Care in 2018. She now leads Yorkshire Cancer Research-funded projects including "Improving health status and symptom experience for people living with advanced cancer" and the HOPSCOTCH initiative optimizing pediatric hospice-to-primary-care transitions, targeting pain, breathlessness, and fatigue management.
Her work is supported by Yorkshire Cancer Research grants, and she contributes to medical education as a tutor for the Gateway to Medicine programme.
Chapman is affiliated with the Leeds Institute of Health Sciences and St Gemma's Academic Unit of Palliative Care, conducting fieldwork directly within Yorkshire hospice networks.
