Professor Lucy Ziegler is a leading academic in Palliative Care at the School of Medicine, University of Leeds. She serves as Head of the St Gemma’s Academic Unit of Palliative Care and is a member of the Martin House Research Centre Management Team, a partnership between Martin House Children’s Hospice, the Universities of York, and Leeds. Her role encompasses research leadership, education oversight, and clinical academic training.

Her research focuses on improving quality of life for patients with advanced diseases through complex interventions, timely palliative care access, and symptom management. Key areas include pain assessment, health inequality reduction, and supportive care for children with life-limiting conditions. She leads the £1.4m RESOLVE programme and previously contributed to the NIHR eRAPID programme for cancer symptom reporting.
She has secured 17 research grants totaling £7.5 million, including £2.2 million as Chief Investigator from NIHR, ESRC, and charities. Her educational responsibilities include leading undergraduate and postgraduate medical education modules, supervising PhD students, and mentoring Year 1-4 medical students.
