Dr. Emlyn Dodd is a Senior Lecturer in Classical Studies at the Institute of Classical Studies, University of London, and former Assistant Director for Archaeology at the British School at Rome (2021–23). He holds a B.AncHist (Hons I) and PhD. His research focuses on Roman archaeology, specializing in ancient viticulture, agriculture, and urban studies. Key projects include the Falerii Novi Project (Large-scale excavations in central Italy) and the Cyclades survey investigating wine/oil production. He co-directs the Antiochia ad Cragum Archaeological Research Project in Turkey.
Research interests span Roman urbanism, ancient non-elites, and Mediterranean agricultural networks. His publications include Roman and Late Antique Wine Production in the Eastern Mediterranean (2020) and edited volumes on ancient wine archaeology. Awards include Macquarie University's Early Career Researcher of the Year (2023). He is a passionate advocate for student equity, developing programs to widen higher education access. Collaborations include the British School at Athens, Australian Archaeological Institute, and UNESCO projects.
Awards and fellowships include Fellowships from the Royal Historical Society, Society of Antiquaries London, and Higher Education Academy. His work appears in journals like American Journal of Archaeology, Antiquity, and International Journal of Inclusive Education. Current projects emphasize interdisciplinary methods, combining geophysical survey, excavation, and environmental analysis to explore ancient urban and rural landscapes.
