Emily Williams is Professor of Diversity, Development & Inclusion and Vice Dean (People & Culture) at King’s College London’s Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine. She holds a PhD from UCL and has extensive experience in academic roles including fellowships at the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute in Melbourne. Her research focuses on systemic drivers of health disparities, particularly ethnic and social inequalities in healthcare and education. She leads initiatives like the Melting the Snowy White Peaks program to improve outcomes for minority ethnic students. Current projects include an MRC/BHF Centre of Research Excellence on cardiac therapies and EDI strategies in cross-institutional research. Williams has authored over 40 peer-reviewed articles on topics ranging from diabetes prevention in India to healthcare access barriers for South Asian populations.
Her education includes a PhD from UCL’s Department of Epidemiology & Public Health, followed by postdoctoral fellowships at Imperial College London and Monash University. Before joining King’s, she was Director of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion at the University of Surrey.
Research interests span health inequalities, EDI in academia, and interventions addressing racial inequities. Recent articles emphasize interpreting services in primary care and nursing education equity. She leads NIHR-funded projects on staff wellbeing and NHS collaboration. Notable collaborations include work with Oxford, Edinburgh, and institutions in India and Australia. Williams’ lab focuses on intersectional health disparities and policy-driven solutions.
