Emily Roberts-Tyler is a Lecturer and Director of Postgraduate Research in the School of Educational Sciences at Bangor University. She specializes in effective reading instruction for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities, focusing on fluency-based interventions and implementation fidelity in school settings. She has led multiple research projects, including the Education Endowment Foundation-funded Headsprout Early Reading in Special Schools (HERiSS) study involving 55 special schools in England.
Her work emphasizes collaborative, close-to-practice research, with over £170,000 in grants secured since 2014. She collaborates with regional networks like CIEREI and SF-DDARIN to promote applied research in developmental disabilities. Emily has supervised numerous postgraduate students and reviews for journals such as Educational Studies and the Journal of Applied Research in Intellectual Disabilities.
Her research highlights include evaluating Headsprout® Early Reading programs, analyzing pandemic impacts on literacy teaching in Wales, and developing implementation support tools for practitioners and parents. She chairs a teaching-focused group within the SF-DDARIN network, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration between universities and practice-based settings.
