Emily Nelms Chastain is an Assistant Professor of Christian History & Methodist Studies at Southern Methodist University (SMU). Holding a Ph.D. from Boston University (2025), an M.Div. and M.A. in Religion from Claremont School of Theology (2019), and a B.A. from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (2007), she specializes in American Religious History, Methodism, World Christianity, and Women's Religious History. Her research explores gender dynamics in Methodist traditions, global Methodist movements, and historical frameworks of religious reform.
