Emily Mercado serves as Assistant Professor of Choral Music Education and Music Education Area Head at The University of Utah, teaching undergraduate/graduate courses, supervising student research, and conducting the treble voice ensemble Voci Altissime.
Educational background:
- Ph.D. in Music Education, Louisiana State University
- Master of Arts in Teaching, Oregon State University
- Bachelor of Arts, Oregon State University
Her research focuses on choral music pedagogy and arts education policy, with publications in leading journals including Update: Applications of Research in Music Education and Arts Education Policy Review. She actively presents at national conferences such as the Society for Music Teacher Education Symposium and NAfME’s Research and Teacher Education National Conference.
Mercado supervises graduate research in music education while developing community partnerships with local schools. She serves on the ACDA-UT board and previously held leadership roles with Oregon Music Education Association and Oregon American Choral Directors Association for eight years.
Her professional activities include conducting Voci Altissime and community engagement through school partnerships, building on her prior nine-year experience teaching choir at Crescent Valley High School and Cheldelin Middle School in Oregon, where she also served as Associate Conductor of the Corvallis Repertory Singers.
