Emily Cook is a Part time Assistant Professor of Music at DePauw University with a dynamic career as both a performer and educator based in Bloomington, IN.
She serves as principal clarinetist of the Evansville Philharmonic and Carmel Symphony Orchestra, bass clarinetist of the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra, and third clarinetist of the Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra. Previously, she held positions with the Akron Symphony Orchestra and Richmond (VA) Symphony Orchestra, and has appeared with Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Louisville Orchestra, and West Virginia Symphony Orchestra.
Emily is dedicated to performing new music and serves as artistic director of Kamratōn, which has premiered over 50 works for mixed chamber ensemble. Her research interests focus on the intersection of music theory and performance studies, particularly on the work of Kaija Saariaho.
As an educator, she has taught across diverse settings from university clarinet studios to rural middle-school band programs, demonstrating her commitment to music education at all levels.
She has presented research blending music theory and performance studies on Kaija Saariaho's work at the CUNY Graduate Center and SUNY-Buffalo, showing her scholarly engagement with contemporary music composition.
Outside her academic work, Emily performs with the Afro-Yaqui Music Collective and as an improviser with the duo Cook/Ma, showcasing her versatility across musical genres and performance contexts.
