Emily Blackmer is an Assistant Professor of Social Work and Associate Program Director of the Bachelor of Arts in Social Work program at Bethel University’s College of Adult and Professional Studies (CAPS) and Graduate School. She teaches courses in social policy, child welfare, healthcare social work, and advanced clinical practice. Her roles combine academic leadership with clinical expertise, particularly in transplant social work at Mayo Clinic and child welfare systems.
Blackmer holds a B.S.W. (2007) and M.S.W. (2013) from Azusa Pacific University. Her professional experience spans Los Angeles County’s Department of Children and Family Services, medical social work across multiple specialties (e.g., critical care, neonatal ICU), and faculty roles at Azusa Pacific University. She currently works in Mayo Clinic’s transplant group in Rochester, MN.
Her research focuses on caregiver support in oncology, child welfare workforce development, and social work education. She has published in Journal of Public Child Welfare and presented at national conferences on topics like inter-professional training and social justice in child welfare.
