Emilia Gordin serves as a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Equine and Small Animal Medicine at the University of Helsinki's Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. She is also a Doctoral Researcher in the Doctoral Programme in Clinical Veterinary Medicine, with research activities spanning from 2013 to 2024.
Dr. Gordin's educational background includes a DVM from the University of Helsinki (2007) and specialization in Small Animal Diseases (2017). Her academic journey began with the Finnish Matriculation Examination at Mattlidens gymnasium in 2000.
Her research interests focus on small animal clinical medicine with particular expertise in canine epilepsy (especially in Finnish Spitz dogs), feline cholangitis, and acute kidney injury in companion animals. Her work has increasingly concentrated on biomarker research for kidney diseases in recent years.
Dr. Gordin's publication record shows consistent scholarly activity with five peer-reviewed publications between 2013-2024, demonstrating progression from foundational research on canine epilepsy to more specialized biomarker studies in recent years. Her 2024 publication represents the most current work in urinary biomarkers for acute kidney injury in dogs.
She has been actively engaged in teaching since August 2018 as a University lecturer and clinical teacher in small animal clinical medicine at the University of Helsinki. Previously, she held a research position funded by the University of Helsinki at Tufts University's Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine (2017-2018).
Her clinical experience is extensive, having worked at Evidensia Kamppi (formerly Eläinlääkäriasema HauMau) from 2007-2016, and earlier positions at Eläinlääkäriasema Avec in Porvoo (2008-2009) and Lauttasaaren Eläinlääkäriasema in Helsinki (2007-2008).
Dr. Gordin is multilingual with Swedish as her mother tongue, and fluent proficiency in Finnish and English, with mediocre French skills. Outside academia, she has a personal interest in dog sports, particularly agility.
