Elora Halim Chowdhury is a Professor in the Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies department at the University of Massachusetts Boston within the College of Liberal Arts. She serves as Director of the Human Rights Minor and holds affiliate appointments in Asian Studies, Asian American Studies, Cinema Studies, and Conflict Resolution, Human Security and Global Governance. Her work intersects transnational feminisms, gender violence, human rights, and South Asian cinema.

Her research scrutinizes transnational feminist theory, critical development studies, and war cinema through the lens of Bangladesh. Her publications like Ethical Encounters (Temple UP, 2022) and co-edited volumes on South Asian filmscapes and human rights praxis demonstrate interdisciplinary engagement with South Asian studies and gender politics.
