Professor Ellie Chapple is a leading academic in corporate law and governance at QUT Business School. She holds the position of Professor of Accounting and serves as Director of Research Training in the Faculty of Business & Law. Her research focuses on corporate governance, environmental reporting, modern slavery, and securities law. Chapple earned a Doctorate in Juridical Science (SJD) from QUT and is a member of multiple professional bodies, including the Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand (AFAANZ) and the Society of Corporate Law Academics (SCoLA). She has held editorial roles, such as co-editor of the Accounting Research Journal (2014–2021) and deputy editor-in-chief of Accounting & Finance since 2021. Chapple has examined over 25 PhD/master’s theses and currently supervises 9 research students. Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly gender equality (SDG 5) and climate action (SDG 13). She is affiliated with QUT’s Carbon Strategy Group and Modern Slavery Research Network.
Education: Doctor of Juridical Science (QUT).
Research Interests: Corporate governance, non-financial reporting, capital markets, insolvency law, board diversity, and environmental sustainability.
Professional Roles: Member of the Federal Government’s Human Trafficking and Modern Slavery Research Network, QUT’s Research Degrees Committee, and the Centre for Justice Modern Slavery Research group.
Key Contributions: Her research addresses contemporary challenges in corporate accountability, sustainability, and diversity. Notable projects include studies on gender diversity’s impact on corporate risk and Indigenous directorship through reconciliation action plans.
