Ellen Maria Vos serves as a Studio Tutor and Study Mentor at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague (KABK), where she has taught since 1984. Her primary affiliation is with the Interior Architecture and Furniture Design department, mentoring first-year Bachelor students, and she also contributes to the Fashion & Textile department.
Education:
- Royal Academy of Art, The Hague (1975-1980)
Artistic Practice: Vos maintains an active dual career as an educator and exhibiting artist. Her sculptural work spans diverse materials including reed installations in Kortrijk (Belgium), concrete reliefs in Rennes, and ice sculptures created during expeditions to Quebec with Joop Beljon and Herman Kossman. The two-decade collaboration with Beljon on "City Without End" represents a career highlight, evolving from weekly modeling sessions into a bronze fantasy city. In painting, she explores literary and mythological narratives through transparent acrylic layers that generate emotional depth and tension, with exhibitions across the Netherlands and internationally.
Professional Integration: Her teaching methodology directly incorporates decades of professional practice, bridging conceptual design principles with material experimentation. She has completed commissioned works for private clients and corporations, including wall paintings and a diptych for a private library, while maintaining her autonomous studio practice.
