Ewoud van Rijn is a Lecturer and Studio Practice Tutor in the Painting-Printmaking section of the Bachelor Fine Arts program at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague (KABK). He leads the studio practice component of both full-time and part-time bachelor programs, and is affiliated with the Combined Degree route with Leiden University.
His artistic research, titled The Archaic Revival Research, explores intersections between art, science, and spirituality since the modern scientific revolution. This multidisciplinary practice produces works spanning prints, paintings, publications, and performance, exhibited internationally. His research emphasizes how art and spirituality adopt scientific methodologies while embracing intuition and the irrational.
Van Rijn advocates for artist autonomy in creating networks and platforms. He co-founded initiatives like Quartair, Room, and Het Wilde Weten, and co-initiated the Rotterdam-based PrintRoom, a platform for artist publications and research. His work underscores the necessity for artists to establish self-directed presentation and publicity structures.
While no specific academic grants or awards are mentioned, his professional contributions focus on institutional critique and artist-led initiatives. His educational role integrates historical research with contemporary artistic practice.
